The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has extended the flash flood watch for low-lying and flood prone areas of Portland, St Mary and St Ann until 5 o’ clock this afternoon.
The watch was issued yesterday.
A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and as a result residents in the named areas are advised to take precautionary measures.
The Met Office says the Surface Trough continues to persist across Jamaica with light to moderate, and at times heavy, showers occurring across northern and southeastern parishes since last night.
It says the forecast is for showers and isolated thunderstorms to continue to affect mainly eastern parishes into this afternoon.
The Met Office notes that flash flooding is possible over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of northeastern parishes and St Ann.
It says it will continue to monitor the situation.
