The Namibian delegation which is currently in Jamaica to celebrate the nation’s 60th anniversary of independence. The delegation, which is now representing the President of the Republic of Namibia, who was originally expected to be in Jamaica, is headed by the Honourable Christine Hoebes, Minister in the Presidency of Namibia.
Jamaican Folk Forms, the heart of our nation’s culture, are entrenched in our forefathers’ rites and traditions. The JCDC is vital to the survival of these folk forms, which would perish if not supported. These traditional forms are preserved in a variety of ways.
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Judith Falloon-Reid is preparing to go on a multi-city tour with her Aaah-Inspiring Antarctica, A Jamaican on Ice Experience, which debuted to great acclaim at the National Library of Jamaica in March 2020. Malachi Smith, a dub poet, will join her.
India and Jamaica are celebrating milestones in democracy in 2022. India will celebrate its 75th anniversary of Independence, while Jamaica will be celebrating its 60th anniversary of independence. The JCDC extended the deadline for entrants to the Jamaica Festival Song Competition to March 18th, 2022. This year’s competition is part of a special Diamond Jubilee series of memorable events for Jamaica 60 Independence celebrations.
The plans are now in high gear for the 9th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in 2022. The successful execution of this significant event during Jamaica’s 60th anniversary of Independence, is being made possible through the collaborative effort of several stakeholders.
