Fraser-Pryce, Dacres, lead solid Jamaican team to NACAC championships


Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Fedrick Dacres lead a 42-member Jamaican team to the 2018 NACAC Championships in Toronto, Canada. The championships begin on Friday, August 10 and end on Sunday, August 12.

Fraser-Pryce, who broke 11 seconds for the 100m in London on July 21 for the first time since 2016 and Dacres, the 2018 Commonwealth champion, and world leader in the discus, are strong contenders for medals.

Also included in the squad are 2012 CAC Games 100m gold medalists Nesta Carter and Jonielle Smith as well as newly-minted national 800m record holder Natoya Goule, who is having her best season ever, having won her first senior medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.

Shericka Jackson, who won silver in the 200m at the Commonwealth Games and who has run a personal best 22.05s this season, has also been included in the squad as are CAC 400m gold medalist Tiffany James and relay gold medalists, Natasha Morrison and Jura Levy.

The full men’s squad includes Kenroy Anderson, Ramone Bailey, Clayton Brown, Nesta Carter, Fedrick Dacres, Nigel Ellis, Demish Gaye, Steven Gayle, Tajay Gayle, Ivan Henry, Rusheen McDonald, Ashinia Miller, Hansle Parchment, Cannigia Raynor, O’Dayne Richards, Shawn Rowe, Jordan Scott, Traves Smikle, Jahnoy Tucker, and Annsert Whyte.

The women are Simoya Campbell, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Natoya Goule, Tisanna Hickling, Shericka Jackson, Tifanny James, Derrian Hill, Shericka Jackson, Anastasia Leroy, Jura Levy, Stephenie Ann McPherson, Natasha Morrison, Leah Nugent, Shanieka Ricketts, Janieve Russell, Jonielle Smith, Yanique Thompson, Danielle Williams and Jodean Williams.

Recently retired sprinter Michael Frater is the team manager. He will have as his assistants Merlene Hamilton and Marvin Anderson.

1976 Olympic 200m champion Donald Quarrie is the team’s technical leader and his coaching staff will include Maurice Wilson, Lennox Graham, Julian Robinson, Reynaldo Walcott and Paul Francis.
