Symbolic passing of the torch from UN Women to GoJ – PS Thorpe accepts on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport

UN Women is supporting the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles ( WEPs). The WEPs are guidelines which are designed to support the fast-tracking of the process of gender equality. UN Women is being supported by the ILO and the EU to roll out the Win – Win Programme in Latin America & the Caribbean.  Jamaica is the only Caribbean country selected to participate.  The programme will span three (3) years. The focus is largely on private sector engagement and support to selected national machineries. We’re happy to be selected to benefit from the Win-Win programme.. Friday’s edition of the Ja Observer carries an article on the launch.

MOU now signed with UN Women

The memorandum of understanding, (MOU) is designed to forge a closer relationship between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport ( MCGES) and our International Development Partner, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women).

The MOU will last for three (3) years and is designed to facilitate the phased implementation of the National Strategic Action Plan to Eliminate Gender-based Violence in Jamaica (NSAP-GBV) 2017-2027.

The Bureau of Gender Affairs (BGA) is the Gender Focal Point (GFP) for the implementation of the Campaign to act as chief liaison between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment & Sport (MCGES) & UN-Women.

Under the MOU, two media giants, Jamaica Information Service (JIS) & the Creative Production and Training Centre Ltd. (CPTC) have been contracted to support the robust and cutting-edge implementation of the Public Education Campaign.

The Campaign is themed: ‘No Excuse For Abuse!’ #NEFA
