When black workers of 19th century Jamaica asserted their freedom on December 27, 1831, the Right Excellent Samuel Sharpe fueled their resolve. Our physical emancipation was built on this man's dedication, which he carried until his last breath. Today, Jamaica celebrates the day that ended slavery.

December 27 is no ordinary day. We give thanks for the hearts of the real freedom fighters who put it all on the line to ensure our freedom. They're asking us — "What next?"
