Jamaica is at it again with our firsts. This time the first is recognising the continuous, positive impact that Jamaicans have in Paterson, New Jersey. Its located on the corner of Amistad Park, which carries rebellious history. What was once named Veerland Avenue is now called Jamaica Way.

Jamaican architect Nina Cooke John will be designing the new Harriet Tubman monument mounted in Newark, New Jersey. The Tubman monument will replace a statue of Christopher Columbus, which officials removed from Washington Square.

June 16th is observed as Diaspora Day. Celebrated annually by Jamaicans at home and abroad, Diaspora Day was first commemorated in 2005 following a recommendation made at the 2004 staging of the Jamaica Diaspora Conference.
Jamaica showed up to Harvard with our Caribbean family and aced the same exam given to law students. We showed up and showed why we have such a hold on the entertainment industry. More and more individuals should take on this challenge and benefit from the knowledge.
